Student Leadership Team
Ensuring that our students have opportunities to engage in leadership activities is vital. From organisational skills, to team building, negotiation and communication, being involved in our Student Leadership teams affords students the opportunity to practice and develop a broad skill set. Being a student leader gives students the opportunity to develop and demonstrate their leadership skills, giving them a voice and opinion which is to be heard throughout the school.
The student leadership team is a group of talented and professional students, working to support our students, being a positive role model for the younger pupils and help to improve our school. They play an active part in school life, taking responsibility for running many of our whole-school activities – from helping with community outreach to contributing to regular school events. The student leaders are guided by co-ordinators Mrs Taylor and Mrs Westall.
Student Leadership Elections
Student leaders are elected democratically by their peers each year. Every form group elects representatives who demonstrate commitment, responsibility, and a desire to make a positive contribution to school life. The election process gives all students the opportunity to vote, ensuring that leadership positions are earned through a fair and transparent democratic system.
Student Leader Guardians
Our Student Leadership Team launched an exciting new initiative called Guardians. Made up of dedicated Year 10 students, the Guardians are committed to supporting our new Year 7 pupils as they make the transition to secondary school. We understand that moving to a new school can feel daunting, and our Guardians are there to help every step of the way.
The team has already begun building relationships with our incoming students by taking part in the Year 6 ‘Come Join Us’ sessions, where they introduced pupils to key staff and helped them become familiar with the school environment. Throughout the summer, the Guardians continued their support through our Summer School programme, and in September they play an active role within form groups, offering guidance, reassurance and a friendly face as pupils settle into life at Meols Cop High School.
ASPIRE NEWSLETTER
Student Leaders have proudly taken the lead in producing the school’s ASPIRE Newsletter. This exciting initiative has given students the opportunity to develop their writing and communication skills by creating and publishing their own articles, sharing achievements, experiences and events from across the school community.
MEOLS COP PODCAST
The Student Leadership Team is always looking for new ways to amplify student voice, and have embarked on an exciting new venture: launching the Meols Cop Student Podcast.
Members of both the Student Leadership Team and Scholars Programme work collaboratively behind the scenes to plan, record and produce the first episode. Their hard work and creativity have been instrumental in bringing this project to life, and we are delighted to announce that the podcast will launch at the start of the new school year.
BRIGHTER LIVING PLANTER PROJECT
Student Leaders have been working in partnership with the Brighter Living Partnership Southport on a project to enhance the appearance of our school environment.
Students have designed a series of colourful planters made from reclaimed wood, which will be displayed at the front of the school. The project aims to create a brighter, more welcoming entrance for students, staff, visitors and members of the local community, while also promoting environmental sustainability through the use of recycled materials.
